What Is the Certificate?
ISO 45003 is guidance for managing psychological health and safety in the workplace. Within the ISO 45001 framework, it describes how to identify and manage psychosocial risks — excessive workload, unclear role definition, bullying and harassment, work-life balance, job insecurity. It is a guidance document, not a requirements standard.
Who Needs It?
- Organisations with a high rate of burnout and staff turnover
- Businesses employing people in shift work, high-intensity jobs, or emotionally demanding roles
- Organisations wanting to strengthen their ISO 45001 system on the psychosocial side
- HR teams wanting to institutionalise a bullying- and harassment-prevention policy
Is It Mandatory?
Not mandatory, and because it is guidance, no accredited certification is issued for it. However, OHS legislation recognises that risk is not limited to the physical; assessment of psychosocial risks can be addressed in an ISO 45001 audit.
Scope of the Standard
- Identifying psychosocial hazards: work organisation, social factors, the work environment and equipment
- Assessing workload, work pace, working hours and shift patterns
- Role ambiguity, lack of control and insufficient support
- Preventing bullying, harassment, discrimination and violence
- Job insecurity and the effects of change processes
- Assessing risks and control measures
- Supporting affected workers and return-to-work processes
- Monitoring performance and improvement
Certification Process
- 1Gap AnalysisCurrent practices are compared against the guidance's recommendations; gaps are identified.
- 2ApplicationThe process, roles and records the guidance recommends are implemented, adapted to the organisation's own structure.
- 3Internal AssessmentThe effectiveness of implementation is measured through internal audit and review.
- 4Second-Party Assessment (optional)A customer or an independent party can assess the implementation's conformity with the guidance and issue a report. This is not an accredited certificate.
Period of Validity
This document is guidance; because no accredited certificate is issued, it also has no validity period. Implementation depends on the organisation's own review schedule.

Accreditation
This document is not a requirement but a guide; That's why accredited certification is NOT provided. If anyone submits an accredited document such as "ISO 31000 certificate", this is against the accreditation rules. Implementation of the guidance can be considered as evidence in the audit of the relevant specification standard (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 45001).
The scope under which this scheme can be offered varies according to your product and activity; it is confirmed in writing at the quote stage.
